Sonora is home to the largest automotive project in North America. With an investment of 1.2 billion US dollars, the Ford assembly plant in Hermosillo  developed a CD3 platform capable of producing 300,000 units a year of new Ford, Mercury and Lincoln models starting to coming out in August 2005. Due to this project, a whole new supplier industrial park has been developed in front of the Ford plant, beginning with around 18 Tier 1 supplier companies.
